Overview
John Lautner's Silvertop isn't a venue — it's a private home, one of the most photographed pieces of California modernism in existence. Hermès wanted to use it for one night as a living showroom for the Maison collection, staged so guests could move through the house and experience the furniture, lighting, and objects across three distinct chapters of a single evening. Exposure NY brought me on to produce the logistic nightmare of moving every stick of existing furniture of this historic home out and bringing in not only the entire Hermès collection, but all the infrastructure needed to house 25+ actors, catering team, and waitstaff without ever losing site of the home feeling ‘authentic’.
The night opened quietly. A garden-side California reception — ambient and low, the kind of hour where the canyon and the house do most of the work. At 7 PM, everything shifted: the home transformed into a French brasserie, mid-service and mid-chaos, with eccentric chefs running plates, waitstaff in character, a pianist tucked in a corner, and illusionists working the rooms. By the finale, all the performers had spilled into one space, dancing to Madness's Our House alongside the guests. Three acts in one home, one night, no curtain in between.
The work was logistical theater. Choreographing 12 vendors and a full performer cast through a private historic residence with strict load-in restrictions, no permanent modifications allowed, and all preceded by a grueling ten day install.
